Apps / Universal TV Remote
Every button free. No weekly subscription.
Universal TV Remote turns your Android phone into the remote for your TV over your home Wi-Fi, or by infrared on phones that have an IR blaster. Every button is free and there are no ads on the remote.
In testing now. This page will link to Google Play once the app is public.
Real screens
Straight from the app.
Captured from the app on a Pixel 7 Pro and an iPhone (the iPhone version is not out yet). TV names are samples.

What it does
Everything on the remote is free.
- 01
Every button, no paywall
Power, volume, mute, channels, input, the D-pad and OK, back, home, menu, playback keys, the number pad and the red, green, yellow and blue keys. Control as many TVs as you like.
- 02
Finds your TV by itself
Turn on the TV, open the app and tap your TV. No account, no sign-in. When a TV asks you to allow the app or type a code, the app tells you exactly what to do.
- 03
Type with your phone’s keyboard
Search on the TV without pecking at letters with arrow keys.
- 04
Your TV apps, one tap each
Open the apps on your TV straight from the remote, and choose which ones appear.
- 05
Touchpad
Swipe to move and tap for OK. On LG and Samsung TVs it moves the TV’s own pointer.
- 06
Cast photos and videos
Show photos and videos from your phone on supported TVs. They go straight from your phone to your TV over your Wi-Fi. Three free casts, unlimited with Remote Pro.
Ads and payments
What’s free, what’s paid.
- Ads
- Free users see one small banner on the TV list and in Settings, never on the remote.
- Paying
- Optional Remote Pro (monthly, yearly or once for life) removes the ads and adds extras such as a home-screen widget, the remote in your notifications, voice search, unlimited casting and themes.
- What we don’t do
- Every remote button stays free. No weekly plans. Cancel any time in Google Play.
Works with
- Samsung Smart TVs (Tizen, 2016 and newer)
- LG Smart TVs (webOS)
- Roku TVs and Roku players
- Google TV and Android TV
- Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick and Fire TV smart TVs
- VIZIO SmartCast TVs
- Philips Saphi and Titan OS TVs
- Older Hisense VIDAA TVs
- Almost any TV from phones with an infrared blaster, even without Wi-Fi
Universal TV Remote is an independent app and is not affiliated with any TV maker. Brand names are used only to describe compatibility and belong to their owners.
Good to know
- Your phone and TV need to be on the same Wi-Fi (phones with an infrared blaster are the exception).
- Turning the TV on from the app works on TVs that keep their Wi-Fi awake in standby. If yours can’t, the app shows the setting that makes it work next time.
- Screen mirroring works with budget TVs that use EShare, and needs Remote Pro.
- Netflix, Prime Video and other paid apps show a black screen when mirrored. That is their copy protection.
- Android only for now.
Privacy and support
What leaves your phone, and what doesn’t.
The app talks to your TV directly on your home Wi-Fi. No account and no location. Photos, videos and your screen go only from your phone to your TV. Anonymous crash reports and usage statistics help fix problems, and you can turn them off in Settings.
